Jerzy Makarczyk

Jerzy Makarczyk (born July 24, 1938 in Warsaw ) is a Polish lawyer, professor of international law and was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights , President of the Institut de Droit International and a judge at the European Court of Justice .

Career

Jerzy Makarczyk received his doctorate in law in 1966 and was appointed professor of international law in 1974. In 1985 he became a Senior Visiting Fellow at Oxford and in 1988 also a professor at the International Christian University Tokyo . From 1989 to 1992 he was Undersecretary of State and then State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Poland. For the government of Poland he took part as a negotiator in the negotiations on the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the territory of the Republic of Poland. Makarczyk was then President of the Delegation of the Republic of Poland to the General Assembly of the United Nations . From 1992 to 2002 he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights . From 2002 to 2004 Makarczyk was an advisor to the Polish Prime Minister Leszek Miller for foreign policy and human rights. In 2003 he was President of the Institut de Droit International and from 2004 to 2009 a judge at the European Court of Justice .

He has published works on international law, European law and human rights .
