Jeshwang Prison

Jeshwang Prison (rarely: Mile 7 ) is the second largest prison in the West African state of Gambia after the Central Prison, called Mile 2 .

Location and description

The prison is located in Old Jeshwang , a part of Kanifing Township and has a capacity of 200 prisoners. It belongs to the Gambia Prison Service .

history

In August 2018 there was a major escape of prisoners from the remand prison. It is reported that 23 prisoners escaped. Eight officers were arrested in connection with this.
