Jessica Durlacher (born September 6, 1961 in Amsterdam , Netherlands ) is a Dutch writer , literary critic and translator .

Life

Jessica Durlacher is the daughter of the sociologist and writer Gerhard Durlacher , the only one of his family to survive Auschwitz . His reports and stories about the Nazi era made him an important contemporary witness in the Netherlands. Jessica Durlacher continues this topic and writes in her novels about the lives of families in which the parents survived the Holocaust and how this experience traumatizes and shapes them and their children.

Durlacher now lives and works in Bloemendaal near Amsterdam and in California and is married to the Dutch writer Leon de Winter . The two have two children together.
