Jessica Mulligan

Jessica Mulligan is a game designer and writer who has made a significant impact on the development of online games . In industry circles, she is one of the most important pioneers for the acceptance of virtual worlds .

Career

Jessica Mulligan has been in the game industry since 1984 when she was a beta tester for Spectrum HoloByte , Epyx, and other companies. From 1985 to 1986 she worked in return for free access to the online service GEnie by General Electric as a volunteer File Librarian of the Apple II Round Table within the network. After her first experiences with the online game Stellar Warrior , which was available there and which led to her online account being deactivated several times due to excessive gaming, she developed the first play-by-mail space strategy game The Rim Worlds War , which is available exclusively via chat and e- Mail was played and was the first game of its kind on an online commercial service. In 1987 she got a job at Quantum Computer Services (later AOL ), where she initiated the development of an online adaptation of the role-playing game Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in 1988 . The game finally came out in 1991 under the title Neverwinter Nights .

In 1989 Mulligan Games became Product Manager at GEnie. In the early days of the Internet, she was one of the main people responsible for the acceptance of virtual worlds in online services such as AOL and GEnie, and thus brought about text-based online role-playing games such as MUDs , which laid the foundation for further development in this area laid.
