Jessica Schmidt (lawyer)

Jessica Schmidt (born March 5, 1979 in Nuremberg ) is a German law scholar and professor at the University of Bayreuth .

Life

After graduating from high school in Pößneck in 1997, Schmidt began studying law at the University of Jena in 1998 , which she completed in 2003 with the first state examination in law. This was followed by studies at the University of Nottingham , which she completed in 2004 with the title of Master of Laws . After her return to Germany, she took up a position as a research assistant at Walter Bayer's Jena chair . There she received her doctorate in 2006 with summa cum laude for Dr. iur. She then did her legal clerkship in Thuringia, which ended in 2008 with the second state examination. In 2013 Schmidt completed her habilitation procedure and received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, German and European business law, European and international private law and comparative law.

After a substitute chair at the University of Bayreuth in the 2013/14 winter semester, Schmidt was appointed to this same chair for the following summer semester. Schmidt accepted this call while simultaneously rejecting an offer from TU Dortmund , so that she has held the chair for civil law, German, European and international corporate and capital market law (civil law I) at the University of Bayreuth since 2014.

Publications (selection)

Schmidt researches and publishes, in line with her venia, primarily on international private law and comparative private law, in turn on international corporate law. In addition, she gained notoriety in specialist circles through her commentary on the European Inheritance Law Ordinance in Beck's online commentary on the BGB .
