She is responsible for the Roman Catholics throughout Syria.

Location

The Cathedral of the Child Jesus is located northwest of Aleppo University on Sultan Bayezid Avenue.

history

From 1937 to 2011, the St. Francis of Assisi Church in the Azizyeh district , built in the 1930s, served as the Roman Catholic cathedral of the Apostolic Vicariate of Aleppo. On January 15, 2011, the new Cathedral of the Child Jesus was consecrated by Cardinal Sandri .

In view of the civil war in Syria since 2011 , the importance of the cathedral as such is not emphasized by the church. Therefore it appears only occasionally in the church media. Although three cathedrals in Aleppo are part of a reconstruction program of the international Catholic aid organization Church in Need (Aid to the Church in Need, ACN), the Christ Child Cathedral, open for worship, is not one of them.

The Apostolic Vicar of Aleppo has been Georges Abou Khazen (* 1947) since November 4, 2013 .
