history

Aleppo University (1960)

The university goes back to a Faculty of Civil Engineering founded in 1946 , which at that time was still part of the Syrian University . After Syria's independence, the government expanded the university system and this faculty, together with an expanded faculty of agricultural sciences, became part of the newly established Aleppo University. From 1979 the rector of the university was Prof. Mohamed Ali Huriah.

In the civil war in Syria from 2011 onwards, 82 people were killed and 160 injured in a bomb attack on January 15, 2013. The facade of the building was badly damaged. The two explosions occurred between the student dormitories and the Faculty of Architecture .
