The Tischrin University ( Arabic جامعة تشرين, DMG Ǧāmiʿat Tišrīn ; also Tishreen ) is a state university in Latakia and the third largest university in Syria .
The Tischrin University was founded in 1971 under the name University of Latakia . The name was changed to Tischrin University in 1975 in commemoration of the October War , as the month of October is called Tischrin in Levantine Arabic .
