Jethro Burns

Kenneth Charles "Jethro" Burns (born March 10, 1920 , † February 4, 1989 ) was an American bluegrass and country musician.

Burns started playing the mandolin when he was six . At an amateur radio station WNOX competition in Knoxville , he met Henry Haynes in 1932 . The two twelve-year-olds then got a job as a studio musician and formed a duo that performed pop songs in a comedic way. They also appeared on radio broadcasts as Homer and Jethro for 39 years until Haynes died in 1971. In the following years Burns performed with his own jazz ensemble, the Jethro Burns Quartet , as well as with his brother-in-law Chet Atkins and the folk singer Steve Goodman . Burns died of prostate cancer in February 1989 . In 2001, Homer and Jethro were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame .
