Eudoxia Lopukhina ( Russian Евдокия Фёдоровна Лопухина * July 30 jul. / 9. August  1669 greg. In Moscow ; † August 27 jul. / 7. September  1731 greg. Ibid) was the first woman of Peter I

Life

Evdokija came from a noble family. She had a traditional upbringing, was illiterate, and had no spiritual interests. She was chosen for him by Peter's mother. Yevdokiya was not given a say, she followed the orders of the Tsar's mother.

Peter and Evdokija married on February 6, 1689 and had only a short marriage. Even the birth of a heir could not induce the tsar to be loyal to his wife.

During the suppression of the Strelitzen uprising in 1698, Peter the Great also suspected his wife of participating in the conspiracy and banished her to the Suzdal monastery in 1698 , where she lived under the name Helene. After Peter's death (1725) she returned to the Russian court in 1727. There she died on September 7, 1731.

The couple's common children all died before them:

  • Alexei (February 28, 1690 - July 7, 1718), Tsarevich of Russia
  • Alexander ( October 13, 1691 - May 24, 1692), Prince of Russia
  • Pawel (* / † 1693), Prince of Russia
