Yevgeny Vadimowitsch Roisman ( Russian Евге́ний Вади́мович Ро́йзман ; born September 14, 1962 in Sverdlovsk ) is a Russian politician and former mayor of Yekaterinburg . Roisman was best known for his often controversial use against drug trafficking and abuse. He makes a living mainly from the icon trade .

Mayoral elections 2013

On September 9, 2013, Roisman was elected Mayor of Yekaterinburg . Although this office - contrary to its title - contains purely representative functions (the unelected city manager represents the executive in Yekaterinburg ), the election was hotly contested. Roisman's most important rival candidate, Jakow Silin from United Russia , achieved just under 29%, while Roisman received 33%.

A foreseeable victory for Roisman in the 2017 gubernatorial elections was prevented by his non-admission, apparently a decision by the Kremlin.

When asked whether a good citizen had to put up with the authorities, he said no: Nobody was a traitor or enemy of Russia who did not agree with the state administration. It is exactly the other way around. "Patriotism in its true meaning is a manifestation of a free person. Only a free person can be a citizen."

At the beginning of April 2018, despite protests by around ten thousand citizens, elections for mayor were abolished by the people in Yekaterinburg. In future, the mayor would be proposed and appointed by a parliamentary commission. However, it was not possible to implement this amendment to the law, which was purely aimed at Roisman, in a legally correct manner. Roisman also refused to sign this regulation and resigned.
