Evgeni Wassiljewitsch Mawlejew , usually Eugen Mavleev ( Russian Евгений Васильевич Мавлеев ; * December 6, 1948 , † July 25, 1995 ) was a Russian classical archaeologist , his specialty was Etruscology .

Mavleev was the head of the antiquities department of the St. Petersburg Hermitage . Here the etrusologist saw himself in the tradition of his role model and predecessor Oskar Waldhauer , whose biography he had written as the last work. Mavleev was the representative of the USSR on the international Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae committee. Through this facility, he promoted contacts between Soviet and international research at an early stage. He lost his first wife at an early age and had to raise a little daughter by himself. He later married a second time. Because an illness was recognized too late, Mawleev died at the age of 46, leaving behind his second wife with two young children.
