Guntram Beckel

Guntram Beckel (born October 9, 1930 - September 8, 2019 ) was a German classical archaeologist .

Beckel was in 1959 at the University of Heidelberg with the work Gods assistance in the pictorial records of Greek heroic legends doctorate . For his work he was awarded the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute for the period 1959/60, with the help of which Beckel was able to travel to the Mediterranean and study the archaeological sites. After his return he became an employee of the antique collection of the Martin von Wagner Museum . He worked as curator of this museum for almost the entire period up to his retirement , alongside the director of the Collection of Antiquities and Ordinaria for Classical Archeology, Erika Simon . His successor was Irma Wehgartner . The focus of his work and research was therefore also the processing of the internationally important Würzburg antique collection.
