Bolmke refers to a forest area and a residential building located in it on the federal highway 244 between Wernigerode and the district of Elbingerode (Harz) in Saxony-Anhalt, which belongs to the town of Oberharz am Brocken .

history

The Kingdom of Prussia was largely responsible for collecting taxes and customs duties in the County of Wernigerode in the Harz region, as the Counts of Stolberg were mediatized as previous sovereigns as early as 1714. For the customs clearance of goods, a so-called announcement or declaration post was required, which a Prussian chief customs and tax inspector from Quedlinburg on the much-used road between Elbingerode in the Kingdom of Hanover and Wernigerode in the Kingdom of Prussia not far from the border, where the road to the Prussian Territory led, stimulated. This announcement post was in 1830/31 on one of the communityNöschenrode built forest land ceded to the Prussian state for 20 thalers. But the announcement or customs post did not meet his high expectations and had already been received in 1838, so that even the demolition of the building was considered.

In 1866, the Prussian main customs office sold the building in Bolmke to Count Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode , who had a so-called road money lifting point or, in short, a road house set up here. Every person who wanted to use one of the new highways built at the expense of the Grafenhaus had to pay a fee, as is still known today from toll roads in the Alpine countries. Until the early 1930s, the building in Bolmke served as a road money pick-up point and was then used as a small inn. The tenant chose the designation “For relaxation” for this excursion restaurant. As early as the summer of 1937, the Wernigerode Municipal Traffic Office protested against this name with the following reason: “Strangers made us aware that although they had found a house“ for recreation ”, but lacking the correct name“ Bolmke ”they would have assumed that not found right. The [...] designation "For recreation" is not very well chosen for a plot of land located on this busy road and could perhaps be discontinued entirely. "In fact, the designation at that time was abandoned in favor of the historic Bolmke .

Today the building, which also has a bus stop, is used as a residential building.

Material witnesses from the time as a road money collection point

In the Harz Museum in Wernigerode there is still a toll tariff for motor vehicles , which was posted in 1905 on the Bolmke Chausseehaus and supplemented in terms of content in 1908.
