Jhabua was one of the princely states of the Central India Agency of British India in what is now the state of Madhya Pradesh . Its capital was the place Jhabua . Jhabua was founded in 1584 by Raja Kesho Das from the house of the Rathore - Rajputs of Marwar (Jodhpur), who was in the service of the Mughals Akbar I and Jahangir . In 1723 the principality came under the suzerainty of Sindhia von Gwalior through the advance of the Marathas .

Jhabua was a British protectorate from 1819 to 1947 and in 1901 had an area of ​​3460 km² and 81,000 inhabitants.
