Jhangeli was the name for a network of narrow-gauge railways in Luxembourg . The name was never used officially, but was coined by the vernacular .

Some routes were financed by the Luxembourg state by offering iron ore deposits to private railroad companies for exploration . The proceeds from the ores were intended to finance the construction and maintenance of the respective route. For example, 3 1/3 hectares of ore field were allocated for each kilometer of railway built on the Luxembourg – Remich line . The use of these routes was set for 95 years. After that, all infrastructure should be transferred to the state.

In addition to ore, other economic goods were also transported on the routes, such as gypsum on the route between Luxembourg and Remich. In addition, there was also passenger transport on all routes. The routes became an important factor in the development of the village.

stretch

Most of the routes ran parallel to the country roads. Separate routes were only built in exceptional cases - for example on steep slopes. In Luxembourg City, the terminus was on the forecourt of the main train station .

The following table contains the route data with the opening and closing of passenger traffic. The routes marked with * kept the routes open for freight traffic for a few months longer.
