Jhargram is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal .
The city is the capital of the Jhargram District, founded in 2017 . Jhargram has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 17 wards (constituencies).
Demographics
The city's population is 61,712 according to the 2011 census. Jhargram has a gender ratio of 999 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus that is usual for India. The literacy rate was 88.5% in 2011. Almost 95% of the population are Hindus , approx. 2% are Muslims and approx. 3% belong to another or no religion. 8.7% of the population are children under 6 years of age. Bengali is the main language in and around the city.
Infrastructure
Jhargram Station is on the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section of the Haora-Nagpur-Mumbai express train line. The city is also connected by several highways.
