Jiří Balík

Jiří Balík (born November 30, 1953 in Tábor ) is a Czech agricultural engineer, he was Rector of the Czech Agricultural University in Prague from 2010 to January 2018 .

Live and act

After graduating, Balik studied agricultural sciences with a focus on crop production at the Czech Agricultural University in Prague from 1973–1978. After passing his engineering exam with distinction, he was a doctoral candidate from 1979 to 1982 and a scientific assistant in the Agricultural Faculty, Department of Agroecology, Soil Chemistry and Plant Nutrition from 1982 to 1994. In 1994 he became an associate professor in the Faculty of Agricultural Biology, Food and Natural Resources and in 2001 a full professor. At the same time he was deputy from 1994 to 1996 and from 2010 director of the department of agroecology, soil chemistry and plant nutrition. His specialty is plant nutrition with basic nutrients, their application, transfer into the rizosphere and utilization of plant residues.

From 1997 to 2003 he was Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Agriculture, 2000–2003 Vice-Rector for Science and Research, 2003–2010 Vice-Rector for Communication and Building and Property Management.

In 2010, Balik was elected as the successor to Jan Hron as rector of the University in Prague-Suchdol and was confirmed in this office on October 9, 2013 for the period until February 2018. He has been Rector Emeritus since January 31, 2018, when he transferred the university leadership to Prof. Ing.Petr Sklenička .
