Jiří Payne
Jiří Tomáš Payne (born July 7, 1956 in Prague ) is a Czech politician of the Citizens Forum OF ( Občanské fórum ) , the Democratic Citizens Party ODS ( Občanská democická strana ) and, most recently, the Party of Free Citizens SSO ( Strana svobodných občanů ) .
Life
Payne, son of Harry Donald Payne and Božena Bouckova, graduated from school at the Mathematical and Physical University of Charles University , where he earned a doctorate in natural sciences in 1981 . He then worked as a computer programmer and editor for computer programs at DM Servis between 1982 and 1985 . Due to his dissident attitude, he was under observation by the Czechoslovak State Security Authority (Státní bezpečnost) and later had to work as a stoker at TJ Praha from 1987 to 1990 . In 1989 he took part in actions during the Velvet Revolution and was involved in the Committee for the Defense of the Unjustly Persecuted VONS (Výbor na obranu nespravedlivě stíhaných) .
At this time, Payne also joined the OF Citizens Forum ( Občanské fórum ) , which he represented between June 7, 1990 and December 31, 1992 in the Czech National Council (Česká národní Rada) . In 1991 he switched to the Democratic Citizens' Party ODS ( Občanská democická strana ) and became a member of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Czech Republic (Poslanecká sněmovna Parlamentu České republiky) , which emerged from the National Council, on January 1, 1993 , and belonged to it until on June 20, 2002. During this time he was Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee between 1993 and 1996 and then Deputy Minister of Defense from 1996 to 1997. He then became deputy chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives and also chairman of the permanent delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly . Furthermore, in 1997 he took over the office of President of the Czech-US American Friendship Society. He was later from February 14, 2009 to December 7, 2015 deputy chairman of the party of free citizens SSO ( Strana svobodných občanů ) .
His marriage to Halka Kuscynska, which he entered into in 1982 and later divorced, resulted in two sons and a daughter.
