The Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel ( English Qingdao Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel ) is a road tunnel in the Shandong Province of the People's Republic of China . It passes under the entrance to Jiaozhou Bay between Qingdao City in the north and Huangdao District in the south.

Construction began on December 27, 2006, and commissioning took place on July 1, 2011 at the same time as the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge . Together with her, the tunnel forms the Jiaozhou Bay Connection Project .

The entire structure begins in Qingdao on Tuandao Road and is first led as a six-lane road through an open, 620 m long section to the 5550 m long tunnel with its 3300 m long underwater section. The two tunnel tubes, each with three lanes, will be brought into daylight in the south of the structure through a further 620 m long open section on Xueijia Island.

Data

The deepest point of the tunnel is 70.5 m below sea level, it is at least 25 m below the sea floor of Jiaozhou Bay. The maximum speed allowed in the tunnel is 80 km / h.

The executing companies were the China Railway Tunnel Group and Qingdao Guoxin Industry Company Ltd.
