The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge ( Chinese 膠州灣 大橋 / 胶州湾 大桥 , Pinyin Jiāozhōuwān Dàqiáo , English Jiaozhou Bay Bridge ), also Qingdao Bay Bridge ( 青島 海灣 大橋 / 青岛 海湾 大桥 , Qīngdǎo Hǎiwān Dàqiáo , English Qingdao Bay Bridge ) called, is a 26.7 km long highway bridge over Jiaozhou Bay in China . It is part of the 42.58 km long Jiaozhou Bay Connection Project , which was listed by Guinness World Records as the longest bridge over water . The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge has been the longest bridge since it opened in 2018 .
In addition to the bridge, the bay will be crossed by the Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel , which was also put into operation in 2011.
Description of the structure
The structure, located on the south coast of the Shandong Peninsula , connects the cities of Qingdao and Huangdao on Jiaozhou Bay , so that the distance to the highway along the coast is shortened by 30 km. The bridge has a turnoff to Qingdao-Liuting Airport . The opening and opening for car traffic took place on June 30, 2011.
The bridge was designed by the Shandong Gaosu Group ( 山東 高速 集團 / 山东 高速 集团 ). The building is designed so that it earthquake of intensity 8, typhoons can defy and ship collisions should. The traffic is guided on three lanes in each direction of travel.
The structure was built as a prestressed concrete bridge by over ten thousand workers over a construction period of four years . Around 450,000 tons of steel and around 2.3 million tons of concrete were used. The Maurer Söhne company installed expansion joints on almost two hundred bridge crossings with a total compensation distance of 33.59 meters.
The Jiaozhou Bay Bridge has three major ports for shipping. The 600 meter long Cangkou Canal Bridge has the largest span in the entire structure at 260 meters. The remaining bridge fields have a span of 60 meters.
