Jim Hiscott

James Michael Hiscott (born December 4, 1948 in St. Catharines , Ontario ) is a Canadian composer and accordionist.

Hiscott studied physics and mathematics in Canada and at the University of Lancaster until 1970 before switching to music. From 1970 to 1976 he was a student of Samuel Dolin at the Royal Conservatory of Music and from 1973 to 1976 of David Lidov and Richard Teitelbaum at York University .

In 1977 he received a composition award from the Canadian Federation of University Women . In the same year he became a music producer for the CBC Toronto radio . In 1981 he was a founding member and first president of the Manitoba Composers Association . In the same year he founded IZ music , a society for contemporary music, through which several of his works were premiered, together with Peter Allen , Bruce Carlson and William Pura .

Hiscott played his own works on the accordion a. a. at the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra's New Music Festival , Vancouver New Music Society events , Toronto Big Squeeze Festival , and Vancouver Folk Music Festival . As a soloist he has performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra , the Niagara Symphony and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
