Samuel Dolin
Samuel Joseph Dolin (born August 22, 1917 in Montreal , † January 13, 2002 in Midland / Ontario ) was a Canadian composer and music teacher.
Dolin first studied with Tania and Vladmir Elgart , Stanley Gardner and Vladimir Emenitov and continued his education at the Toronto Conservatory and the University of Toronto . From 1942 to 1945 he was the Inspector of Music Classes in Durham Counties and Northumberland , Ontario, and taught at Trinity College School in Port Hope.
He also studied composition with John Weinzweig and Ernst Krenek and piano with Weldon Kilburn , Reginald Godden and E. Robert Schmitz . Since 1945 he has taught composition, music theory and piano at the Toronto Conservatory. In 1966 he founded the studio for electronic music here. His numerous students include Stuart Broomer , Brian Cherney , Steven Gellman , Herbie Helbig , Jim Hiscott , Paul Hoffert , Lorraine Johnson , Moe Koffman , Gary Kulesha , Larysa Kuzmenko , Michel Longtin , John Mills-Cockell , Allan Rae , Eric Robertson , Clark Ross , Ann Southam , Ben Steinberg , Timothy Sullivan , Roman Toi , Ben Trowell , Ruth Watson Henderson , Wes Wraggett, and Jack Zaza .
