Michel Longtin

Michel Longtin (born May 20, 1946 in Montreal ) is a Canadian composer.

Longtin attended courses in theater studies at the Banff School of Fine Arts from 1962 to 1963 and received a bachelor's degree from the Collège des Eudistes in Montreal in 1967 . He then studied computer science and music with André Prévost . From 1970 he studied at the University of Montreal with Prévost and Serge Garant . He was also a student of Samuel Dolin at the Royal Conservatory of Music and worked at the McGill University electronic music studio with Paul Pedersen , Bengt Hambraeus and Alcides Lanza .

Since 1973 Longtin has taught at the University of Montreal and also at the École Vincent-d'Indy and McGill University. He has received the PRO Canada Award for Young Composers (1971), the Canada Council Prize (1974) and the Canadian League of Composers (1975), and the Jules Léger Prize (1986). His work ranges from chamber music and electroacoustic compositions to the symphonic monumental piece Quaternions (1997), which was performed by the Orchester symphonique de Montréal in 2003 .
