Jim Jacobs

Jim Jacobs (born October 7, 1942 in Chicago ) is an American actor, author and composer. His best-known work is the musical Grease , which he wrote with Warren Casey . Jacobs was nominated for a Tony Award and a Grammy Award .

Life

Jim Jacobs grew up in the northwest of the city of Chicago and attended Taft High School from 1956 to 1960 . During his high school years he was a member of the rock band DDT & the Dynamiters . Grease is based in no small part on Jacob's experiences during this period, joining the theater company at the Hull House Playwrights Center in 1963, where he met Warren Casey. For the next five years, Jacobs was involved in about 50 theater productions in the Chicago area. He played a supporting role in Medium Cool . During this time, Jim Jacobs made a living mainly from writing advertisements. In 1970, he was a role in the  Broadway -performance No Place to Be Somebody get.

In 1971 the play Grease premiered at the Kingston Mines Theater in Chicago. Jacobs and Casey had worked on the piece over the years. Producers Ken Waissman and Maxine Fox noted that Grease would likely work better as a musical if it were defused a little. They agreed to stage the play on Off-Broadway first .

Since the success of Grease, Jacobs has written music and lyrics for individual television episodes or films and was involved in the script for Grease 2 . Since then he has mainly dealt with theater work in Chicago.

In 2013, Jacobs took part in a casting show to cast the new production of Grease on Broadway.

  • Grammy Awards 1972 : Nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Score from an Original Cast Show Album for the soundtrack of Grease.
  • Tony Awards 1972: Nominated with Warren Casey for the Tony Award in the category Best Book for a Musical for   Grease .
