James "Jim" Sheridan (born November 24, 1952 ) is a British politician .

Political career

After Sheridan had already engaged in trade union activities in addition to his professional activity, he was set up in the 1999 regional council elections as a candidate for the Labor Party in the Erskine Central constituency. He won the elections and served on the Renfrewshire Council Area Council for one term .

After Tommy Graham , who represented the constituency of West Renfrewshire in the British House of Commons for the Labor Party, did not run for the 2001 general election, the party set up Sheridan. This received the highest percentage of votes on election day and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time.

In the course of the constituency revision in the run-up to the general election in 2005 , the constituency of West Renfrewshire was dissolved. Large parts went into the newly created constituency Paisley and Renfrewshire North , for whose mandate Sheridan applied in the elections. With a share of the vote of 45.7%, he clearly prevailed against his opponents. In Parliament, he received a post as Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Ministry of Defense. Due to political differences in connection with the 2006 Lebanon War , Sheridan resigned from this position in 2006. In the 2010 general election , Sheridan received 54.0% of the votes in his constituency, thereby defending his mandate.
