Profile in the BoxRec database

Jimmy Wilde (born May 12, 1892 in Tylorstown , † March 10, 1969 in Cardiff ) was a Welsh boxer, who was also called Mighty Atom . It applies to many experts, e.g. B. the " Ring Magazine ", as the best flyweight of all time.

According to records, his career lasted from 1910 to 1923. However, it is assumed that he boxed professionally since around 1907. Wilde was considered to be very powerful, especially with the right hand, but often provoked the opponent with deep-set hands and feinting. He was also very flexible on his feet. In 1914 Wilde became European champions. He won the world flyweight title in 1916 against Young Zulu Kidd. In the last fight of his career he lost the title to Pancho Villa of the Philippines.

Most of Wilde's fights are not officially recorded. He himself later stated that he had completed over 800 fights, but this is probably an exaggeration. In 1990 he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame .
