Jin Yuelin

Jin Yuelin ( Chinese  金岳霖 ; * 1895 in Changsha , Hunan Province ; † 1984 ) was a Chinese philosopher and logician.

Born in Changsha City , Hunan Province , he went to the United States in 1914 after graduating from Tsinghua College to study political science at the University of Pennsylvania . After completing his BA, he enrolled at Columbia University in 1917 to continue his political science studies. After receiving his Magister Artium, he received his doctorate in 1920 with a thesis entitled The Political Theory of THGreen .

Following his doctorate, Jin Yuelin embarked on a five-year research trip through Europe that took him to Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy. After returning to China, he first taught philosophy at Peking University and Tsinghua University , where he founded the Faculty of Philosophy in 1926. From 1952 to 1955, Jin was, similar to his previous position at Tsinghua University, in a double function as professor and dean of the philosophy faculty at Peking University. Subsequently, he became the vice director at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
