Overview of the excavation site

Jinsha ( Chinese  金沙 , Pinyin Jīnshā ) is an archaeological site in China. Today's street district Jinsha (金沙 街道) emerged from the village of Jinsha (金沙 村) of the former municipality of Supo (苏 坡乡), which was dissolved in 2004 and converted into several street districts. Jinsha is located in the west of the Qingyang (青羊 区) district of Chengdu , the provincial capital of Sichuan . The site was discovered by chance in February 2001 during road works. It is around 50 km from Sanxingdui and dates back to around 1000 BC. Dated. The excavated objects show the same characteristics as those of Sanxingdui. Artifacts made of ivory, jade, bronze, gold and stone came to light. In contrast to Sanxingdui, the site was not surrounded by a wall.

The site has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 2006 .

Before the earthquake in Sichuan in 2008 , the exhibition area of the museum, two thirds of which was submerged in the ground, was over 30,000 m². All important finds are presented on three floors. The central excavation site is covered with a roof similar to the roof of the Munich Olympic Stadium.
