Bernhard Stade

Bernhard Wilhelm Stade (born May 11, 1848 in Arnstadt , † December 6, 1906 in Gießen ) was a German Protestant theologian ( Old Testament scholar ).

Life

Bernhard Stade was a son of the organist and city cantor of Arnstadt Heinrich Bernhard Stade (1816–1882) and his wife Emma nee. Hülsemann, widow. Bärwinkel (1814-1889). Arnstadt's Mayor Julius Hülsemann (1824–1888) was an uncle.

He studied Protestant theology in Leipzig , where he was particularly influenced by Kahnis and Fricke , and in Berlin, and since 1875 taught at the theological faculty in Giessen . In 1882/83 and 1896/97 he was elected rector of the university. Stade founded the renowned journal for Old Testament science (ZAW) in 1881 .
