The Jirapa / Lambussie District in northwest Ghana is one of eight districts in the Upper West Region . The district has a narrow piece of border with neighboring Burkina Faso in the north. The district is named after the two traditional areas or "paramountcies" here, areas of traditional rulers who still have significant influence today. These areas are Lambussie and Jirapa.
Ethnic structure of the population
Most of the residents of the district belong to different Gur- speaking peoples of northern Afghanistan, especially the Dagaaba and Sissala . Mossi , Wangara , and Walla also live here .
