The Nadowli District in northwest Ghana is one of eight districts in the Upper West Region and shares a border with neighboring Burkina Faso in the west . The district only came into being in 1988.

96% of the district's population belong to the Dagaare group , about 3% to the Sisala , 1% to various peoples from northern and southern Ghana. 59% are Christians , 18% followers of Islam and 23% profess traditional religions.
