location

Lachsch is located in northern Tajikistan on the border with Kyrgyzstan . The area is characterized by the Transalaikette , mountains like Pik Sat (5900 m) are located in Lachsch. The European route 60 runs through the district and ends north at the Kyrgyz-Chinese border.

Agriculture

Most of the population in Lachsch lives in very simple circumstances; despite the mountainous location and the few areas that can be used for agriculture, agriculture is an important line of business. Collectivization and settlement measures during the Soviet era represented a turning point in the way of life of the population . After traditional forms of agriculture with a strong position of village elders prevailed, Soviet bureaucracy and cultivation methods changed the way of life of the population. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , a lack of specialist knowledge and economic pressure led to overuse of the soil and increasing erosion .

As part of the Sustainable Land Management in the High Pamir and Pamir-Alai Mountains Project (PALM) , micro-projects were funded that support the population and contribute to the preservation of the ecosystem .
