João Gomez de Araújo (composer, 1846)

João Gomez de Araújo (born August 5, 1846 in Pindamonhangaba , † September 8, 1943 in São Paulo ) was a Brazilian composer .

Araújo studied in Rio de Janeiro and Milan and founded the Conservatorio Musical de São Paulo , where he taught until his death. He composed four operas ( Edmea , Carmosissa , Marie Petrovna and Helena ), six symphonies , two symphonic poems , six masses , two cantatas , chamber music works and around sixty songs .
