João Magueijo

João Magueijo (* 1967 in Évora ) is a Portuguese theoretical physicist who is known as a proponent of a cosmological theory with the variable speed of light .

Magueijo

Magueijo studied physics at the University of Lisbon and received his PhD from the University of Cambridge (St. John's College). He then went to Princeton University and Cambridge University and is a professor at Imperial College London .

In 1998 he developed a cosmological theory with variable speed of light (VSL) with Andreas Albrecht . Increasing the speed of light in the early days of the universe could solve the horizon problem and other cosmological problems without inflation . A similar theory was proposed by John Moffat as early as 1993 , but initially largely ignored (there was also a priority dispute with Moffat, which both of them resolved amicably). Magueijo published a popular science book on his theory in 2003.

He also published a biography of Ettore Majorana .
