Joëlle Bergeron

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joëlle Bergeron (born June 28, 1949 in Charlieu , Loire ) is a French politician and has been a member of the European Parliament since July 2014 . She was a member of the Front National from 1972 to 2014 and was elected to the European Parliament via its list , but left the party shortly after the election and joined the “ Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy ” group.

Career

Bergeron, like her future husband Daniel Bergeron , had been a member of the Front National (FN) since it was founded in 1972. Until his death in 2010, Daniel Bergeron had appeared as a candidate for the FN in several national and regional elections in France. After his death, Joëlle Bergeron took his place on the list and was drawn up for the following parliamentary and senate elections.

In the European elections in May 2014 , Bergeron entered the European Parliament (EP) for the FN. Only a short time after her election victory, party officials asked her to resign from her mandate. The background was that Bergeron had campaigned for immigrants to vote. As a result, she resigned from the FN after 42 years, two days after the election, and moved into the EP as a non-party member. A little later she joined the group “ Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy ” led by Nigel Farage , whereby this accession was important for the formation of the group, as members from at least seven EU countries are required for this.

In the European Parliament, she is a member of the Legal Affairs Committee , the delegation in the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Committee and the delegation in the Euro-Latin America Parliamentary Assembly.
