Jože Osterc

Jože Osterc (* 1942 in Kokoriči , Yugoslavia , now part of the Ljutomer municipality ) is a Slovenian agronomist and politician.

Life

After attending a grammar school in Maribor , he studied agricultural sciences at the University of Ljubljana . He received his doctorate in 1974 with a thesis on the diameter and number of muscle fibers in the longest back muscle as production characteristics of some cattle breeds in Slovenia . He then worked at the University of Ljubljana as a lecturer and from 1986 as a full professor for cattle production (from 2004 to 2006 he was dean of the biotechnology faculty). In addition, he was President of the Slovenian Commission for the Selection of Bulls for Artificial Insemination from 1988 to 1997 .

From May 1990 to May 1992 he was Minister for Agriculture and Forests of the Yugoslav Republic of Slovenia. After their independence, he held the same ministerial office again from January 1993 to February 1997.
