Jo-el Scott (born March 25, 1971 ) is a retired American boxer from Albany , New York.

Career

As an amateur, he boxed super heavyweight and won the 1993 US Championships in Colorado Springs , as well as a bronze medal at the 7th World Championships in Tampere , Finland. He lost it in the semifinals on points against the Olympic and three-time world champion Roberto Balado from Cuba. In 1993 he switched to the professional camp and won his first 18 fights in a row as a heavyweight by knockout, 10 of them in the first round.

His successful career was finally interrupted in October 1996 when he was sentenced to three to six years' imprisonment for escaping in an accident and having sexual contact with three underage girls. After his release he could no longer continue his old achievements; so he lost in July 2002 in the Playboy Mansion after three knockdowns by tKo in the first round against Francis Royal (balance: 6 wins - 5 defeats). In August 2003 he also lost prematurely to Ray Austin .

On June 11, 2004, he raped and murdered a woman in Lincoln Park, Albany, was caught, and on March 10, 2005, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. His appeal was rejected in 2008 and the sentence became final.
