The Playboy Mansion ( German Playboy Villa ) is a villa located in the Holmby Hills of Los Angeles . It was inhabited by Playboy founder Hugh Hefner during his lifetime .

history

The house was built in 1927 by the architect Arthur R. Kelly. Hugh Hefner bought it in 1971 for $ 1.05 million, and in 2011 it was valued at around $ 100 million. The area of ​​the villa measures 1,951 square meters and it is surrounded by two hectares of land. It was managed by 80 employees.

The Playboy Mansion has 29 rooms, including a library, a wine cellar and a private cinema. On the grounds of the mansion there is a separate building, the so-called "Game House", which has a pool table, classic and modern arcade games, pinball machines, pianos, jukeboxes, TVs, stereo systems, a large couch, two bedrooms and a fully mirrored one Room has, which is equipped with a mattress floor. The Playboy Mansion is one of the few properties in California that has a private zoo license. It has both an outdoor and an indoor zoo. It is also the only private residence in Los Angeles where fireworks can be fired outside of New Year's Eve or Independence Day (July 4th).

The neighboring house of the Playboy Mansion was acquired by Hefner in 1996. It was lived in by Hefner's ex-wife, Kimberley Konrad, and her children. There is also a guest house on the premises of the Playboy Mansion, which was inhabited by various Playmates .

On March 30, 2015, Playboy reported that tunnels had been built in the 1970s connecting the Playboy Mansion to the concerns of Jack Nicholson , Warren Beatty , Kirk Douglas and James Caan . Numerous media reported about it until Playboy announced two days later that it was an April Fool's joke .

In 2016, Hugh Hefner sold the Playboy Mansion to investment billionaire Daren Metropoulos for a purchase price of $ 105 million. However, the sale was subject to the condition that the buyer grants the 90-year-old Hefner a lifelong right of residence .

The Playboy Mansion has been the location of many television series and films. She is the main location of the TV series The Girls of the Playboy Mansion and was seen in other series such as Sex and the City , Kendra and The Prince of Bel-Air . In the 1987 film Beverly Hills Cop II by Eddie Murphy , the character Axel Foley attends a party in the Playboy Mansion, and the Playboy Mansion was also seen in the films House Bunny and Miss March . This documentary was shot in the Playboy Mansion. In 2005 a calendar was released called Playmates at Play at the Playboy Mansion . This calendar was shot in 2004 on the Playboy Mansion grounds. The playmates Hiromi Oshima, Lauren Michelle Hill, Carmella DeCesare , Sandra Husband, Irina Voronina, Cara Wakelin, Karen McDougal , Christina Santiago, Pennelope Jimenez, Marketa Janska, Krista Kelly and Teri Marie Harrison were photographed in bathing suits. The Playboy Mansion is also the central subject of the picture book Inside the Playboy Mansion and the video game Playboy: The Mansion , in which the player has to build a “Playboy empire”.

The band U2 released the song The Playboy Mansion in 1997 on one of their albums. Even Tom Morello published with One Man Revolution a song that is among others on the Playboy Mansion.

A commercial for the music game Guitar Hero 5 was shot in the Playboy Mansion, directed by Brett Ratner . Hugh Hefner, Crystal Harris, Kristina Shannon , Karissa Shannon and various other Playmates played in this. In 2011, a commercial for the Dutch beer brand Bavaria was shot at the Mansion. For this, among others, Hugh Hefner, his wife Crystal Harris and Anna Sophia Berglund stood in front of the camera.

In the action game Grand Theft Auto V , released in 2013, the developers built in an Easter egg that is about the Playboy Mansion. The game features a house that is almost entirely modeled on the Playboy Mansion.

Events

Every year a big Halloween party took place in the Playboy Mansion , at which Hugh Hefner also met his future wife Crystal Harris . Another well-known event was the so-called Midsummer Night's Dream Party , an annual event in the Playboy Mansion that always took place on the first Saturday in August.

During the early 2000s, boxing matches were held in the backyard of the Playboy Mansion, with Vassiliy Jirov and David Haye fighting , for example .

The Playboy Mansion also regularly hosted charitable events, such as an event for the Karma Foundation, the Celebrity Poker Party or an event for the Marijuana Policy Project . All proceeds and donations from these events go to charitable organizations. An event designed to benefit autism research was also held at the Playboy Mansion.

In principle, the Playboy Mansion was financed by Playboy Enterprises or its parent company Icon Acquisition Holdings. However, Hefner paid rent to Playboy Enterprises for the part of the Playboy Mansion that is exclusively available for him and his personal guests, meals and drinks as well as other services incurred by him and his personal guests. In 2002 the rent was $ 1.3 million, in 2003 it was $ 1.4 million, and in 2004 the rent was $ 1.3 million.

Playboy Enterprises paid $ 3.6 million for operating expenses (including depreciation and taxes) in 2002, $ 2.3 million in 2003, and $ 3.0 million in 2004, net of rent Hefner.
