Joachim Hemmerling

Joachim Hemmerling (born February 24, 1926 ) is a former German lawyer and university professor . From 1961 to 1990 he was President of the Office for Inventions and Patents of the GDR .

Life

Hemmerling, son of a worker, learned the trade of mechanic. During the Second World War he did military service in the Wehrmacht , was taken prisoner by the Soviets and attended the Antifa school in 2040 .

After his return to Germany he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and studied law. He became a public prosecutor and in 1949 chief advisor for training in the Ministry of Justice of the State of Brandenburg . He then worked at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Volksrichterschule . After a scientific aspirantur at the Chair of Political Economy at the Institute for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED , he became the first doctoral student at the institute to become a Dr. oec. PhD . In 1956 he became deputy head of the State Contracting Court of the GDR , later director of the Institute for State and Legal Theory at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In October 1961 he was appointed President of the Office for Invention and Patents of the GDR (successor to Gerhard Rudolph). He held this office until September 1990.

Hemmerling was a lecturer in commercial law at the Humboldt University, from October 1962 to 1989 Vice President of the Association of Democratic Jurists of the GDR, Vice President of the Association for Commercial Legal Protection of the GDR, senior member of the World Organization for Intellectual Property and professor for innovator law. On December 18, 1988 he was elected chairman of the newly formed office for invention of the Comecon .
