Joachim Hermann Ernst Schröder (born October 3, 1940 in Werder (Havel) ; † October 3, 1991 in Potsdam ) was a German graduate meteorologist who worked for GDR television and radio.

Life

Joachim Hermann Ernst Schröder was the first of two children to be born into a fruit growing family. His father was a master gardener. After visiting the POS in his hometown of Werder (Havel), Joachim Schröder switched to the Helmholtz-Gymnasium Potsdam after the eighth grade , at that time an advanced secondary school. There he passed the Abitur in 1959. He then did a two-year service with the NVA and began studying meteorology at the University of Leipzig . After successfully completing his degree, he started to work for the Meteorological Service in Potsdam in 1966.

Joachim Schröder lived in a fruit grower's house in Werder (Havel), which he took over from his grandparents. In his free time he worked with his parents in family fruit growing. He was married and had two children.

He died on his 51st birthday after a long illness.

Services

After starting his professional activity, Joachim Schröder stood out for his analytical skills in the manual evaluation of the weather data, which was still necessary at the time. As a result, he was given managerial positions. Since the end of the 1960s, he has presented the weather as a television meteorologist in the main news of the GDR. When the announcement was switched to background moderation in the second half of the 1970s, he also took over the construction of the weather maps. The programs were recorded in the GDR television studio in Berlin-Adlershof . In addition, he presented the current weather on the regional Potsdam radio station.

Joachim Schröder belonged to a collective of authors who wrote a work about the life and keeping of carrier pigeons. His contribution consisted of an analysis of the influence of the weather on the flight behavior of the carrier pigeon.
