Joachim I (Constantinople)
Joachim I (Greek Ιωακείμ Α΄ ) († 1504) was Patriarch of Constantinople from 1498 to 1502 and 1504 .
Life
There is little news of his life. He was a metropolitan of drama , probably from a young age. In 1498 he was elected Patriarch of Constantinople after his predecessor Nephon II had been dismissed at the instigation of Sultan Bajesid II . Joachim had the support of King Constantine II of Georgia . In 1502 he was also dismissed by the Sultan because he had had a stone church built without his permission.
He was re-elected in 1504 after his supporters collected 3,500 gold pieces, 500 more than was required for an election. The princes Radu IV of Wallachia and Bogdan III. from Moldova , however, refused to support them.
Joachim died in 1504 during a stay in Wallachia. He is buried in Dealu Monastery in Târgovişte .
