Joachim K. Rühl

Joachim Klaus Rühl (born March 6, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German sports scientist and sports historian .

After graduating from high school in Trier in 1958, he studied sport and English at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken. After the first state examination in 1964 and the second state examination for higher teaching qualifications in 1966, he became an assistant at the university's English department. PhD in English Studies 1970 ( The 'Olympic' Games Robert Dovers. 1612 - 1969 ). 1972 appointed assistant professor for theory of physical exercise. 1976 Academic Senior Councilor at the Sports University in Cologne . Here administrative tasks and teaching in sports history . 1973 founding member, later treasurer of HISPA (International Association of Sports Historians). 1995 founding member, general secretary and treasurer, 1997–1999 president, later Fellow of the European Committee for Sports History . His main research area is early modern sports and local sports history. From 1967 onwards he published Studies in Physical Education (later Sports Science ) twice a year , which was discontinued in 1999 after 65 episodes. All changes in personnel and content at the institutes for physical exercise in the Federal Republic and Austria were updated. The WorldCat has 280 books by him.
