Joachim Maier (theologian)

Joachim Maier (born December 26, 1945 in Miltenberg ) is a German Catholic theologian. From 1996 until his retirement in 2009 he was professor of Catholic theology at the Heidelberg University of Education .

Life

Joachim Maier studied Catholic theology and history from 1966 to 1972 for teaching at grammar schools at the Universities of Freiburg and Würzburg . From 1978 to 1980 he worked as a high school teacher at the Fürstenberg high school in Donaueschingen . In 1982 he received his doctorate at the University of Freiburg under Günter Biemer with the dissertation Schulkampf in Baden 1933–1945. The reaction of the Catholic Church to the National Socialist school policy, illustrated using the example of religious instruction in the elementary schools in Baden for a doctorate in theology. A year later, he was appointed to the teaching council for Catholic theology at the Heidelberg University of Education. In 1993 he received a professorship for Catholic theology at the TU Dresden . In 1996 he returned to the Heidelberg University of Education, where he held the chair of Catholic theology and religious education until his retirement .
