Joachim Oepen (* 1963 ) is a German historian and archivist at the Historical Archives of the Archdiocese of Cologne . He is known for his publications on Cologne city history and Cologne church history and on the historical auxiliary sciences .

Oepen studied history , historical auxiliary sciences , Latin and philosophy in Cologne . In 1998 he was at the University of Cologne with the work The Book of the Dead of St. Maria im Kapitol Cologne Dr. phil. PhD . He has been working at the historical archive of the Archdiocese of Cologne since 1993 , most recently (as of 2015) as deputy archive manager. Since 2003 he has also been a lecturer for history didactics at the University of Cologne.

For several years now, Oepen has also been the publisher of the magazine “Geschichte in Köln” and the accompanying supplements. The series has been published by Böhlau Verlag since 2012 and previously by shVerlag.
