Career

Preston was active as an amateur for South Bank in the Northern Football League , in the final game of the FA Amateur Cup in 1922, however, he was not part of the squad. Towards the end of the 1922/23 season, Preston helped out in the Football League Third Division North at Durham City and came as a left back at Hugh Elliott's side to eight league appearances when the team finished the season in last place.
