Robert Thomas "Bob" Davis junior (born May 3, 1927 in Columbus , Georgia , † June 12, 2010 in Gastonia , North Carolina ) was an American football player and politician .

Life

Robert Thomas Davis Jr. was the son of Robert Thomas Davis and his wife Mary Avant Davis and grew up with a brother. Davis was captain of the football team and the basketball team of the Georgia Institute of Technology . He later played for the Boston Yanks in the National Football League .

Davis served in the United States Army . After his sporting career, he worked in the textile industry . He was also a member of the Columbus City Commission for eight years , and in 1956 he was mayor of Columbus, Georgia. At the time of his mayor election, Davis, 28, was vice president of Swift Spinning mill . During his further professional career, he served as President, CEO and Director of various other spinning mills .

Davis was inducted into the National Football Foundation's College Football Hall of Fame and the State of Georgia Sports Hall of Fame . He was married and had children.
