Joan Root
Joan Wells Root , née Thorpe (born March 25, 1936 in Nairobi , † January 14, 2006 in Naivasha , Kenya ) was a wildlife filmmaker and conservation activist.
Joan Root, the daughter of a coffee planter from England and a safari guide herself, was best known for the 1976 film Balloon Safari over Kilimanjaro , which she made with her husband Alan Root . Most recently she lived for several decades on her farm, Lake Naivasha, northwest of Nairobi , where she was murdered in early 2006.
