Joan de Castellnou , also Joan de Castelnou or Joan de Castelnau was a 14th century Catalan poet from Roussillon . Around 1341 he was probably one of the seven troubadours who carried out the poetry competition of the Jocs Florals ('Flower Games') in Toulouse .

Joan de Castellnou was the defender of the Leys d'amors , the guidelines for love poetry. He was the author of two prose treatises:

The Leys d'amor
  • Compendi de la conexença dels vicis que's Podon esdevenir en los dictats del Gay Saber (a kind of summary of the Leys d'amors that Dalmau Rocaberí were dedicated, from the year 1341)
  • Critical commentary on Doctrinal de trobar by Raimon de Cornet on the teaching of the troubadour poetry from 1324, which was dedicated to the Infante Pere , son of Jaume II of Catalonia-Aragon

In addition, 11 poems of a virtuoso rhetoric on all subjects of the Toulouse School have been preserved.
