Joanna Dorothy Haigh (born May 7, 1954 in London ) is a British meteorologist and climate scientist .

Life

Haigh became aware of climate change early on : “We were aware of this as early as the late 1970s. There has been a lot of talk about the greenhouse effect , ”said Haigh. She was a director of the Grantham Institute at Imperial College from 2014 until her retirement in 2019 ; during this time she headed the physics department. She was President of the Royal Meteorological Society .

Act

Haigh's scientific interests include radiative transport in the atmosphere, climate modeling , the radiative forcing of climate change, and the influence of the variability of solar radiation on the climate . She is one of the authors of the Third Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). She has made numerous contributions to the scientific literature and has also contributed to numerous articles in the writing and broadcasting media.

Haigh participates in the public debate on the climate crisis . Regarding the imminent effects in 2050, she once said: “That's scary, isn't it? It's a little scary when you think about the flooding of the coast and the millions of people who live on the coast. "

She has received numerous awards for her work.
